New Regulatory Standards
NFPA Explanation
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has published specifications within section 510 of the National Fire Code for situations just like this. Here is their statement:
“Any emergency responder radio coverage must be installed, tested and operational prior to occupancy of the structure. It is the responsibility of the building designers, contractors and owners, to ensure the testing, design and installation of emergency responder radio coverage systems prior to the issuance of a temporary or permanent Certificate of Occupancy.”
NFPA Facilitation
Communication Specialists Corp. announces a new service to aid in the measurement of mapping of indoor/Outdoor RF signals. This new framework, called the “Emergency Responder Radio Communication System” or ERRCS, is on the forefront of raising safety standards in every state across the country.
The new equipment introduced from PCTEL called Its Public Safety Network Testing Solution, enables our staff at CSC the ability to measure multi-band radio-coverage with even greater accuracy. The new PCTEL package provides comprehensive Radio Frequency Testing for compliance with Section 510 standards of the National Fire Code for most new construction. It will measure the presence or absence of usable RF signals covering the 700 & 800 MHz bands of P25 public safety frequencies. Also, + band-spectrums for LTE, First Net, AT&T and Verizon.
This testing service is particularly important as more local and state jurisdictions adopt Section 510 of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code for emergency responders. That code explains what most buildings would need to meet the standard for RF coverage, in order to obtain a certificate of occupancy for the new property.
For over 60 years, the focus of Communication Specialists Company, Inc. has been providing our knowledge and commitment to communication services for countless businesses across our geographic territory, including law enforcement and first responders.
